FSSAI registration in Maharashtra is compulsory because Maharashtra is a one-stop destination for all types of food, from street food to hotels. Since then, many people have been engaged in the food and catering business. To start a Food Business, you must first obtain FSSAI registration in Maharashtra by completing the FSSAI registration process. This is essential to legally operate a food business and ensure that food is safe and healthy for consumption.

Where Do You Apply For Fssai Registration In Maharashtra?

Food Safety Compliance System (FoSCoS), replaced the Food Licensing and Registration System (FLRS). The applicant should visit FoSCoS and log in using the existing user ID and password, or register if you’re a new user. FoSCoS was introduced in 2012 for issuing FSSAI licence across India.  It has adjusted to the changing world. 

What Is The Eligibility Criteria For Fssai Registration In Maharashtra?

The FSSAI Food Safety Registration Certificate in Maharashtra is given to the FBO depending on the capacity or turnover of the applicant’s facility. The types of registration available for FBO based on their turnovers are as follows:-

  1. Basic Registration (Petty Food Business): 

It is taken by FBO which has an annual turnover less than 12 lakhs.

  1. State registration (Medium Food Business):

It is taken by FBO which has an annual turnover between 12 lakhs and 20 crores.

  1. Central registration (Large Food Business):

It is taken by FBO which has an annual turnover above 20 crores.

For Whom Is It Mandatory To Obtain Fssai License In Maharashtra?

The FBOs handling the following kinds of business are mandatorily required to obtain an FSSAI Registration/License:

  • Petty Food Business Operators
  • Temporary or fixed stall
  • Hawker
  • Dairy Units including Milk Chilling Units
  • Vegetable Oil Processing Units 
  • Slaughtering houses.
  • Meat Processing and Fish Processing units.
  • Manufacturing/ Processing units inclusive of Repacking of food.
  • Proprietary Food
  • Non-specified food
  • Transporter of food products.
  • Hotels, 
  • Restaurants 
  • Bars.
  • Canteens and Cafeteria 
  • Food Vending Agencies and Caterer.
  • PG providing food, 
  • Banquet halls with food catering arrangements, 
  • Importers and Exporters of food items inclusive of food ingredients.
  • E-Commerce food suppliers including cloud kitchens.

Documents Required For Fssai Registration In Maharashtra

For the purposes of FSSAI registration in Maharashtra, the following documents are required:

  1. Form B (mandatory for all)
  2. Processing unit’s blueprint/layout plan (mandatory for manufacturing and processing units only)
  3. A list of the Board of Directors, with their full names, addresses, and phone numbers (mandatory for companies only)
  4. Equipment and Machinery Names and Lists, as well as the number, installed capacity, and horse power used (mandatory for manufacturing and processing units only)
  5. List of food category manufactured (in case of manufacturers)
  6. Authority letter with name and address of manufacturer along with alternative name who has the same powers(wherever applicable)
  7. Analysis report (Chemical & Bacteriological) of water (mandatory only for manufacturing and processing units only)
  8. Proof of possession of property (Sale deed/ Rent agreement/ Electricity hill, etc) (optional)
  9. Copy of certificate obtained under Coop Act – 1861 (optional; wherever applicable)
  10. NOC from manufacturer for Re-labellers (mandatory)
  11. Plan or certificate of Food Safety Management System (if any)
  12. Source of milk or meat (wherever applicable)
  13. No objection certificate from Municipality or local body (optional)
  14. Proof of turnover  and transportation
  15. Declaration form

Procedure

FSSAI registration depends on the turnover whether an applicant premises are eligible for central registration/ state registration, etc. For the purposes of acquiring of FSSAI registration in Maharashtra, the application can be submitted offline or online. 

OFFLINE

The FBOs can also register offline by submitting two forms such as 

  • Form A is about the Application for registration
  • Form B is about the application for State and Central License

ONLINE

Step 1: Create a new login ID in the FoSCoS portal

For the purposes of FSSAI registration in Maharashtra, the applicant requires to visit the official website, i.e. https://foscos.fssai.gov.in. Create a new login ID in the website. 

Step 2: Select the state and kind of business

The second step for FSSAI registration in Maharashtra is by selecting the state and kind of business the applicant wish to proceed in the above mentioned FBO. The required documents should be sent to or submitted to the Food and Safety Department along with the application physically.

Step 3: Fill premises details & Select appropriate Food Product Categories & Products. 

The FSSAI registration form should be accompanied by the required documents. The documents can be uploaded online in the portal. The FSSAI registration form can be accepted or it may be rejected by the concerned authority within 7 days from the date of receipt of an application through the FoSCoS portal. If the application is rejected, the concerned authority should inform the applicant in writing.

Step 4: Verification of documents and inspection of premises

The concerned authority will look into the documents submitted. If necessary, the concerned authority will inspect the food premises before granting the FSSAI registration certificate.

Step 5: Registration Certificate

FSSAI registration certificate will be granted to the applicant if the concerned authority finds that the FBO satisfies all the required criteria. The applicant can download the FSSAI registration certificate by logging into their respective accounts through the FoSCoS portal. 

Step 6: Display of Certificate of registration 

Moreover, the Food Business Operators (FBO) should display the certificate of the registration at their place of business during the business hours of their facility. 

Revocation Of Fssai Registration

FSSAI Registration in Maharashtra can be revoked under the following conditions: 

  • A serious violation of the guidelines issued by FSSAI[1], which adversely affects consumer health. 
  • Outbreak of illnesses and food poisoning due to poor food quality. 
  • If the food retailer has not met food safety standards in the past and continues to deviate practices.
