The BRC Certificate remains valid for three years only, but the certification body conducts audits of the same annually in order to check whether the holder is meeting the compliances and standards. Because of the annual audit, The BRC Certificate may get cancelled if the holder will not meet the basic compliances; on this basis many experts say the BRC Certificate remains valid only for a year. The certification body also conducts an unannounced audit during the three years.

While granting the BRC Certificate, an independent party conducts the audit. The independent body gives numbers to the applicant during the audit and the highest standard based on these numbers is the BRC A-Grade.

After getting a BRC Certificate, the holder needs to go through the audit for getting the recertification. This re-certification audit takes place at the six months intervals or twelve months intervals based on the audit report. These re-certification audits take place as per the requirements of the BRC. The holder needs to connect with the Safe Food Certification at least ninety days prior to the re-certification audit period. Failure to get the re-certification audit may result in cancellation/ suspension or withdrawal of the BRC Certification.
